Best oil to use?
^^^ What he said.. I just had an issue with using a synthetic oil in a built engine.. It will be only a conventional oil for me from now on.. Probably shell, Castrol, or Valvoline. -

started with a conventional.. then switched to a synthetic.. (rotella t6) at I think about 500 miles.. This is how I have always been told to break in motors.. but does this pertain to boosted engines? http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm -

okay.. here is an update... I spoke to the machine shop and they said that everything measured out okay. They said they could not find anything wrong other than the rings just were not seating due to slipperiness due to using a synthetic oil prematurely. They advise a conventional in all built... -

If you are speaking of this photo.. that is actually oil I did not wipe from the cylinder before I took the photo.. -

The motor itself is fine.. it just used the heck out of oil.. so, there will be no spun bearings or anything like that. -

Okay.. so here is some history on this. Summer of 2014 I lost a lower radiator hose and never knew it. The stock temp sensor never moved as water temp sensors do not measure air temperature.. Needless to say bad things happened. I pulled the engine and took it to a highly recommended machine... -

while removing the rattling heat shield on my up pipe I noticed that the clamp on the oil return line from the turbo had slipped off. There was quite a bit of oil under there, but I have thought nothing of it since the oil line to the turbo burst a few weeks ago leaving oil everywhere under the... -

don't think there was one. It wasn't their parts, but they were new from AMS performance. -

Yep.. Both on one side. I would think that if the rings weren't going to seat well, they would seat well all the way around. I'll be doing a leak down on that side once the rain stops. That will tell me a little bit more. -
