Sam

I live a life that is fast paced and outside the mainstream. I have an intense passion for automotive racing and everything to do with that world. My work reflects who I am when I am sitting in the driver’s seat of racecar. My identity concealed behind a race-suit and a helmet. No one knows I am a female underneath the helmet when I am approaching the start line with the other male drivers. I am an equal. However as a female trying to keep up in a male dominated field, I am constantly proving to the other automotive male enthusiasts that I deserve to be there. This drive has made my work progress into art with a feminist twist. The longer I am in the automotive world the more I am faced with the adversity of being female. My work sometimes seems masculine, with the masculine subjects and the signing of my work with my nickname “Sam.” When working on my car or my art, I work with my hands and always get dirty. Whether it is clay, wire, wood or something completely non-traditional it does not matter to me. Seeing something come together in front of my eyes, with material that most would over look, excites me. I don’t want to be known as a female trying to become a man, I want to be myself and still be feminine. I just want to prove that you can wear high heels and drive fast wheels. All a girl can do is laugh. I just try to survive everyday, sometimes if feels like every hour. I started a new Facebook because I needed to start over and not keep looking back. I hit some unexpected rough spots, but as they say, that's life. I truly believe that I only have one chance to live my life and life is short. So no holding back, no regrets and I just want to live a life I remember.
