I think you miss understood the question.

I said would you trade a supra FOR AN STI.

As in you own the supra and thinking about trading for an STI.

We would as we feel the STi is a better vehicle in all ways.

Welcome to IGOTASTI!!! You're going to absolutely love it here!! Post some pictures of whatever current vehicle you have!

Do you currently have a new Supra?

Hmm, pros and cons.... They''re pretty different applications to begin with. It's very subjective because it'll all depend on your current life's circumstance.

How old are you?
Do you have a significant other?
Do you have any children?

RWD vs. AWD
Automatic vs. Manual
Coupe vs. Sedan
*insert any BMW meme* vs. Boxer Rumble
$37,000 vs. $50,000

I think we need some more information. Keep in mind, though, that you NEED/SHOULD test drive a 2020 STi and determine if the vehicle is more tailored for you than the Supra.

We actually have a member on here who has a Supra. https://www.igotasti.com/threads/sold-my-sti-supra-journal.13425/

I am 36 . Have two kids a wife . She owns a 2020 wrx. Back in 2017 I bought a limited STI . I modified it . FBO e 85 ect.

Got scared about the motor blowing bc of friends I had at the time . So I traded it for a civic type r . Civic wasn't doing it for me being fwd , so I traded that for a focus rs, which I loved , but even a built ford motor could only go to 600-700.

One day driving around I saw the 2020 supra at my local dealer and traded the rs for the supra ..

I absolutely love the supra . Inline 6 turbo . 8 speed auto .. this car drives like a dream . And not to mention the stock exhaust sounds so good with the pop and crackles you have to pay a tuner to get outve the sti or other cars ..

The toyota bmw b58 engine is superior to any subaru motor ..

The only reason I am thinking about trading the supra in the first place is bc the payment is really high and it's been hard to afford it . Parts for a supra are ridiculous ...

I'm not sure how they justify prices .. smfh .

I have test drove a 2020 STI it was fun , but no where near what a supra brings to the table .. you get the rumble which is nice but the rumble isn't even good for the car ... Equal length headers are the right way to go even tho you lose the rumble .
I do kinda miss shifting manual but I get that joy when I drive the wrx my wife has ...

Getting to 500 hp in a supra will cost less than a 500 sti build that you have to take the engine out just to achieve ...

So as you can see there are lots of pro n con .. I am trying to justify myself going backwards to the sti .. I feel like trading a supra for an sti is going backwards not forwards in life but maybe I am wrong ?

Since your wife has a WRX, I think it'll boil down to the finance aspect of your situation, honestly.

You've had some unique cars working your way up to the Supra. If you don't mind, could you give us summaries of your experiences with each of the cars?

Regardless, you shouldn't view the change as either positive or negative. You need to sit down and sort the numbers. Figure out if remaining with the Supra is rational and feasible, or if reverting back to an STi improves your situation, and also by how much. It's your circumstance, and your life, so you ultimately have to decide what's best for you.

The only thing I can recommend if you do decide to go the 2020 STi route, I would advise you keep it stock. The 2019+ models all have the engine and transmission from the 2018 STi Type RA, which is a drastic improvement in my opinion. Stock for stock in the 2020 compared to your previous 2017 should be quite a difference (based on what I've personally researched).

Keeping cars stock isn't fun for me though . I love modifying my cars , and tuning them ..

Summary on the cars sure.

2017 STI LIMITED . Reached 380HP 410trq Stock motor stock trans. FBO e85. I absolutely loved this car. Was easy to modify . Daily driver. 0 issues
2017 CIvic Type R . Reached 400hp Stock motor stock trans. FBO. The factory transmission in these cars is complete trash. Honda will not help. They built a track car, but if you take it to the track it voids warranty. Even with FBO the exhaust and engine , along with the car being FWD, and coming from AWD, I just couldn't do it anymore.
2017 Ford Focus RS. Reached 450HP Big turbo. Stock motor . Built Trans Twin disc Clutch , FBO e85. Ford really outdid themselves with this Hot Hatch! AWD with 30/70 power split ratio bringing most of the power to the rear wheels, this car is a drift monster. Ken block even went in with ford to create a drift stick.. These cars sound great , and make easy power with few mods.

None of my cars stay stock. If I wanted a boring car I'd get some old grandpa car or a truck and keep that stock, Honestly who buys an STI and thinks hmm Im going to keep it stock LOL. If what you say is true about the newer ones getting the upgrades from the type RA , then these newer motors should be less prone to engine fails and ringlands.

My local dealer isn't getting my STI in until NOV 3 , already reserved it . WRB 2020 . If I like it enough and they give me a good amount for my supra i may just do the deal .

Wow, you've had a fair share of cars and plenty of fun alongside them.

Keep us posted on what your thoughts are regarding the 2020 model, and what your decision will be!
