Jon's 2013 Subie Toy

Starting this journal with my stereo project that I'm looking to get done with on the 22nd of this month. I'm really not a fan of the stock equipment in the Subie so going to switch it up. I have to have my music while I'm cruising around even though I don't mind driving with no stereo just to listen to the puuurrrrrrr.

Project goals:
1- remove interior trim safely :)D) to get OEM unit out.
2- use friend's expertise to do the hard stuff since I've never done radio installs, while also learning so I can do it myself next time.
3- make car loud enough with speakers since I feel I'm past the subwoofer age, it is still subject to change however.
4- drive around with with a bigger grin on my face than when I first sat in the car and turned it on.
5- try not to annoy the neighbors.

Equipment being used for upgrade:
1- JVC touchscreen deck (JVC KW-NT30HD) discontinued model but got it for great price and condition.
2- 4 Memphis speakers
3- Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp
4- accessories for the hook up (various brands)
5- maybe wire in a back up camera which I have not purchased yet.

I'll add photos as I go also.

Here's what I have.

Looking forward to reading more!

Why the discontinued screen?
My friend's buddy had it basically new and paid only $260. Where I could've spent almost 600-700 for what I needed/wanted new for that same brand newer version. The only hangup I found was it's apple play is compatible up to iPhone 6 I think. But I don't care about that because I'm an Android guy lol

So progress being made but had to stop due to using a different SWC (Steering wheel controll) harness that my friend wasn't familiar with.

Turns out the HU I bought was supposed to have an A/V harness that was discarded prior to me buying it.

So eBay to the rescue.

Here are picks of some of the progress.

Obviously, there's not much I can do from here. But if anyone ever wants advice or tips on wiring, connectors and so forth, let me know!

Get us a couple of pictures of the exterior and engine bay as well!

So did you autocross it yet?!?
No lol, not yet. I was looking into it and the ones being held near me already had their intro school. I'm going to look into it more seriously this coming year, hopefully. I rather go into it with some instruction but that's just me.

My next purchase is going to be a kart boy short shifter and whiteline sways, links and bushings for front and back. Tax season will help with that :).

Won't mod much further than maybe another set of tires that I can wear out on the track when I do finally start going.

Once the practice and confidence goes up then I'll look into adding a lil power.

I get it! I do think it would be interesting for you to do an autox before the mods, then after to really see the effect. Waiting, on the other hand, would suck. And the schools usually happen n the spring, and can fill up fast, so keep your eyes out. And if you miss it, or have the opportunity to do an autox before the school, don't be shy about needing a school first. I would literally take my mother to one and think she'd have fun and learn something.

Well finally, with a little delay because of a missing harness I didn't know I needed, the radio job is done and sounds great. I do need to get a better battery though because I've noticed it drained after not running and I'm pretty sure it's already 6 years old. I'm probably going for a yellow top optima.

As requested here's a photo of engine bay which needs a lil TLC that I haven't bothered with yet but my OCD will win eventually.

Been a while since I’ve lurked on the forum keeping busy but I was able to do a winter wash in my garage while the temps weren’t in the negatives .

Compounded the swirls out of paint for the most part but didn’t have the current lighting when I did it so I missed some.

Going to get these rims powder coated Spanish gold here soon hopefully.

Figured I save a little money that way.
