Subaru wrx vs Subaru wrx sti sound

Why is the sound of a 2012 Subaru wrx louder than the 2011 Subaru wrx sti? They are both sedans and both stock. I noticed the different sound a couple of weeks ago from 2 different wrx.*

Are you sure they were both stock? Different pitches/tones might sound louder. Also the distance away, angle to the exhaust, etc... all might make one seem louder than the other.

yeah I'm pretty sure they are both stock. I own the STi and the guy that owns the WRX lives right down the street, he told me his car is stock as well. He came up to me and brought the subject up about his WRX being louder, which i agreed with him.
