Engine Painting

Who here has experience with painting engine components? Since I am in the midst of an engine build, I was considering painting a few things.

I don't think I want to paint the block, though I have considered clear coating it, if I can find a good high-temp clear coat. However, I was thinking that painted valve covers, timing covers and alternator covered might look pretty good. Has anyone done this? What advice can you offer?

Also, what colors would be good? I was thinking of doing the valve covers red, to match the intake manifold and my Perrin FMIC tubing. (My car and engine bay is black.)

Thanks guys!

Powdercoat >> paint

Thats about all I know.

Prep work as well since it has to be really clean to hold paint or powder coat but yes I'd do powder coat over paint.

+1 for powder coat. At one point I did my entire engine with duplicolor metal cast. It was a really nice finish but it did not last long.
