New Exhaust

That really depends on 1. what you want and 2. how handy you are. For example, if you want something stock-ish and have a welder, you could replace the muffler with all sorts of generic replacements such as a Thrush Super Turbo. If you want something that performs better than stock, has a performance tone and looks good, you might consider a full catback or turboback system. Keep in mind, you can do pretty much whatever you want to the catback without a tune, but a turboback exhaust (catback + downpipe) will require a new tune.

What's your budget? You can find amazing deals on used catback exhausts (assuming you're looking for a CBE). Otherwise, there are a plethora of reputable exhaust companies for a new one such as Tomei, Inividia, Cobb, Borla, Apexi, ETS, Greddy, Grimmspeed, HKS, and Injen.

I'd personally suggest Nasioc for used CBE's since that's where I've found countless deals on parts of every aspect of the STi.

It's also worth noting that a catback exhaust on it's own, usually doesn't offer much of a power increase. It may very well smooth out your turbo response, but you might not even notice.

The single biggest performance bottleneck in the exhaust system is the downpipe.

There's a bunch of nice stuff on eBay right now, if you search 2008 STi catback.
