SirMyztiq's Selena

So I'm a sponsor. That means you're my minions and you must comply with my demands am I right?!

Anyways, recently welcomed Selena to the family. She is a 2005 STi. I'm a previous '05 STi owner and lets just say that she gave her life to save mine. I was young, dumb and full of shit. I eventually paid for my bad decisions with a bad accident. May she rest in peace.

So, Selena is sort of my redemption from my past. I never did feel complete since the accident. My life kind of took a turn down the wrong road. I mean, I had just turned 21 and got my first DWI, lost my job AND wrecked my car? It got very complicated the following two years with school, court, jail, health issues and just what seemed like a burden that I could never defeat. But I toiled, tussled and crawled my way out of the dark pit I was stuck in. Everything began to look up. After dealing with my legal issues I became laser focused on finishing school and graduating. This last May I finally did it. I graduated from Southern Methodist University with a BS w/majors in Management Science and Mathematics. I was lucky enough to find a good job for a good company and I haven't looked back sense. Of course, I now know the real world SUCKS! Paying bills and crap. But I found myself with a nice amount of money left over(perk of a sought-after job ) so I decided to come full circle and redeem myself.

I test drove a new 2011 STi as well as one of the new ones. Both within my price range and I knew I could easily afford the payments. However, something wasn't right. First off, I've never been a big fan of buying NEW cars. And, although I loved the new models, I just didn't feel right. I test drove a 2008 and I was pretty close to buying it. Until I went to a car meet and saw one parked next to a Mazda 6...and the resemblance was sickening. So I decided to wait, maybe something will come up, I thought to myself. Then it happened a 2005 STi was put online and I called within 3 days of being posted...only to find out it was sold. If there is one thing I love/hate about Subaru's. They retain their value and people jump on the '05 models like they were free. So I waited a while longer, then it happened. A Kia dealership about 40 miles from my house had one. They had not even posted a picture up but I knew I had to go see it. I convinced my dad to come(he with the good credit and all ) and we bought it that day. Although the newer models were nice and slick...something just felt right about this car. I would have named her Redemption, but she looks like a Selena.

So anyways. She has about 100K on her. I put on the last 1800. So at the moment she is being brought back to normal. I did a couple of fluid changes, well actually just the oil. The Kia dealership had put in God knows what oil with a "Mighty Guard" filter...The previous owner also left on there a COBB radiator shroud, COBB DP and a Greddy EVO2 exhaust. So for the first week or so I was driving her tenderly since I knew she wasn't Stage II. The first thing I bought her was the AP and flashed it right away. Then it happened, a "system lean" CEL coupled with a "emissions leak" CEL. That is when I found these forums and haven't looked back.

11/08/2011

I have an appointment with COBB tomorrow. After two weeks worth of troubleshooting I just couldn't come up with an answer...and within 30 seconds of one of the COBB guys looking at the engine they found a huge tear on the turbo inlet. Go figure. So because I purchased a high mileage warranty, I decided that it was cheaper to pay my deductible than for the part itself. Hopefully they know how to "deal" with insurance and find EVERYTHING and ANYTHING wrong with it.

Here she is after her long bath:

Black/Gold has always been one of my preferred combo's. Looks straight.

I know, I love the combo. I must admit that I considered getting the wheels powder black. Going for the all-black stealthy look. Maybe with chrome lips to accent with some silver. But it is hard to change perfection.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, so please don't take it the wrong way lol

Chrome (with very few exceptions) to me screams "Look at how tacky I am!". But thats just my personal opinion.

None taken!

I don't know why I thought chrome lip. But the black BBS thing is so appealing to me. :) But maybe Gold with full body black wouldn't look so bad. Tint job, tail and headlights and all...HMMMM

How about gold BBS with flat black inserts to match the flat black body? I'm talking about the ressesed middle of each spoke being flat black

Look at how I have the middle of the 4 spokes black (the ones that have arrows pointing to them)?

I'm talking about doing that in flat black.

Excuse my quick half *ss photoshop job lol

Well, that is a gazillion times better at Photoshop that I could ever do.

And you know what, that does look like it will look very sexy...Hmm...I'm thinking about cleaning/polishing/repainting them myself. I found some sweet DYI's on the topic. That blackened part would look pretty damn nice. Like an accent almost. You mean not all the way black but more like a black that fades as it reaches the lip am I right?

So another crazy idea came to me:

What if I was to get gold Supertones, the same color as the rims. See, the previous owner put a lame air horn on it...yes an air horn(I'm taking it off), and I'm going to need a better kick out of my horn plus I like the pillarless look and will probably be doing that mod as soon as I get her back from Cobb. Anyways, so you guys know I considered painting the rims black but I think I'm better off just doing them over so they look like new using the BBS Gold paint. So going with that gold/black theme. I'm trying to think of other things I could maybe BBS Gold out. Supertones being one of them, and maybe the STi badge on the back. HMMMMMMM...man I swear I'm not tacky at all! LOL

And then get a personalized plate that says: GLD SHOES or GOLDSTI or something cool.

Don't hurt my feelings please.

I have no artistic abilities and no sense of show when it comes to cars. I keep it simple. Murdered out.

Don't feel bad. Neither do I. I mean, I wanted the "all black" look b/c well, it was simple. But this gold thing I'm really loving in my head. I can't think of anything else I would like gold on the outside.

So after two weeks of waiting to get her fixed, this is what COBB ended up fixing:

New SS uppipe and all sorts of gaskets I can't remember
New Y-pipe
New turbo inlet

And even after all that, she was still leaking. At this point, knowing that it was Thanksgiving break coming up, I decided to fix the intake manifold gasket leak myself. I wanted to save the money and I also wanted to get the experience under my belt of doing this.

I'll have to give credit to my brother though, his ATI schooling is paying off. He helped me take this off and I highly doubt I would of done it in less time without his help. And now, I didn't pay him, he is my younger brother, he does as I say!

Anyways, here are some pictures of the tear down:

Notice picture number 4. That nasty little rip? Yeah, **** you.

So after we put everything back together, and all the hoses were attached correctly. We of course, labeled them all, the car started. But then the stupid little TGV actuators we removed(we didn't know what they were, but they were in the way) weren't sprung up properly. Hell, we actually put the driver's side actuator facing the wrong way. After some researching, we found a way to fix it and we no longer got the "intake manifold runner stuck open" error.

Now our only issue is air in the power steering. It screeches like a punk. So once he gets home from school, we are going to try and bleed it. I'm also doing other top secret mods that I will post pictures of soon. But yay for progress!

Here are some of the stuff I've been working on b/c the car is out of commission:

Black and gold IS sexy! I love it. I went with the WRB because the car was a steal. I'd go with white, black or gun metal silver next. Anyway welcome to the team! (late lol). Thank you for being a sponsor!

Thank you! I was talked out of painting my wheels black if you look back a couple of posts back. Now I think I'm going to redo them using the GrimmSpeed BBS matching paint!

So, it has been a while since I've updated this:

I've done plenty of work to her just to get her up to speed. Currently, she is leak free. She had leaks everywhere which ended in my brother and I taking off the intake manifold and replacing a gasket. She is currently running amazing.

Although I get the "loose gas cap" CEL from time to time which annoys me. But other than that, she runs smoothly. Got some bling for Christmas which was the gold Cobb lightweight pulley and the battery holder and some other stuff.

I tinted her windows with limo tint on the rear and back windows and legal on the front. Modded the headlights with blackout + angel eyes which looks awesome. I painted my supertones gold, deleted the STi badge on the grill(repainted it too) and changed the Subaru emblem to a gold star black background one.

I also got the JDM style lip and rain guards. I couldn't justify putting down heavy money for these things so under recommendation of some of you guys, I ordered the ones from R-Motorsports on ebay and I must say they are legit. They look exactly the same, good quality stuff and really cheap.

I also changed the stock stereo and speakers. I got a Kenwood DNX-6160 Nav unit and Pioneer speakers. I'm currently unhappy with how the bass is nonexistant so I'm looking for a good subwoofer to give me a little more thump.

But enough talk, here are pics!
