Some exciting news is that the system we have been working on with the PSU Behrend campus to develop is very close to being complete. A lot of time has went into this and the senior students that have helped us on this have done a great job. April 27 and 28 is a double header event in Erie, we are going to test this system out on the 28th at the event. Also if anyone is interested in entering for some auto x fun, check out misery bay region for the event information.

Timing system? Details?

I'll be at VIR the weekend after that if you need another test mule ;)

this is a complete track system developed by two of the guys on our auto x team, myself, and PSU seniors because we have been to way too many events where timing systems have caused issues due to weather conditions, leaves triggering the beams and resetting times, causing false starts, holding up the race, also require too much man power to run the components to read cars, read times, add penalties, and provide results to drivers. This system is using infrared lasers and RFID readers and custom built software which will read the registered car at the line, once it passes the beam it will start the time exit gate will then shut it off when passed. Time will be posted for drivers and real time rankings will be ready in seconds. All of this at a low cost, only will need normal track personnel to reset cones, a start gate guy, and one guy on computer adding penalties where before you needed more so that nothing was missed and gates are not tripped to early, and people to inform drivers of placing and such. Other versions will be added to the base system that will do even more but this is a start. We are going to try to work this into a couple different events before offering it to event organizers.
