2nd STI, building a driver.

so x-mas time 2012 I started looking for my 2nd sti, just a fun driver for me and my wife to beat the snot out of and enjoy it. after some searching the local used lots we ended up just buying a 2013 WR blue 5-door. so 12months later and a few grand lighter in the pocket book we ended up with a lot of pics and some fun memories:

so stock lasted all of 2weeks and I started ordering parts....

and one of these (yeah I ebay cheaped the lip).

at this point it just needs a pro-tune and driven for this summer. next fall I'm planning on gong rotated and reverse mount. maybe build a twin pump w/ surge tank setup just for fun of it. I ant to stay below 500awhp for daily drivability.

dyno results. it did over 420 on a max run but my catted d/p is holding it back. this was the final tune for drivability.

yes, that (and sometimes more).

Bad example, but imagine opening a door to your house with a bug screen on vs off. The off version will get better wind through the house.

If memory serves: On my old MINI it was worse. So as you probably know, the Catalytic converter doesnt really work until it gets hot. Unfortunately the EPA (or whoever) tests cold starts for emissions (hence the 'secondary air pump' on newer Imprezas 07+). Anyways, as a way to get the cat up to temperature, to pass emissions, the engineers purposefully but a bottleneck right before the cat to heat up the air and the cat. The results were....interesting. I'm pretty sure I remember lots of threads about the "pre cat" getting so hot it'd melt the cat or manifold itself on track days. :banghead:

^ The transmission in the 07's was upgraded. Longer 4th gear iirc. Besides the ringland/tune issues, I don't think the 07 was
necessarily a bad model year. Thoughts...?

Yeah i think the tune was tweaked for emissions and made worse.

But honestly, there are so many minor differences between all the years (even the 06/07) its hard to choose. 06 got no air pump, but has a different rear diff, etc...
