Man I'd love to build my own engine. I feel like the stakes are too high for me though, as you gotta know exactly what you're doing. Everything else I do is a learn-on-the-fly type deal.

I will definitely say the first time I did an STI engine I made some goof ball
Mistakes and learned from them. Then I asked someone that has built 100?s of them to go over the whole process with me. Learned a lot and was worth every one of the beers it cost.

Few updates, heads are back from the shop. Head were rebuilt with new super tech valves, dual springs with titanium retainers. Valves are also 2mm over size with new valve guides.

Block has upgraded light weight crank with dual oil passageways for rods. Also has 100mm CP pistons, with Manley I beam rods, and acl bearings. Case was bored out to 100mm and lined honed for arp case bolts. This is also accompanied with a light weight act fly wheel, and light weight harmonic balancer. Hopping this setup will rev fast.

long block is together. Now I need to start bolting on other tid bits and fix a bracket weld on the headers. After that drop the motor in car, get new base tune from @holycrapits fast, to compensate for lightened rotating mass, removed about 22lbs of rotating mass this time around. Then smog it and get the tune for break in. After that 2500 miles of break-in for new clutch flywheel and motor.

Of course pics or it didn?t happen.

Soooo, that coolant pipe across the top of the engine. Ever consider wrapping it in some insulation? So it MAY help with warm-up a bit, I would think that on the whole its just heating up the IM (directly above it, no?) and generally contributing to heat-soak.

Honestly haven?t given it any thought yet.

Pro tip use this bracket to secure flywheel to try down flywheel bolts.

Twinsies!

But seriously, why not wrap that coolant pipe. People go through huge efforts to keep their IM/intake cool (CAI, phenolic spacers, etc...), I feel like its a no-brainer.

Had to pull engine again. Forgot to put the stupid stud in at bottom of engine.

However used a dermal and made new nipple and saved myself 130 bucks.

This is today?s progress so far. Might fire her up in about an hour or so depending on how rest of install goes.

I'm seeing a tire! Is your passenger fender liner removed at the moment?
