So about a month ago I started noticing 4th and 5th slipping on the highway when I'd try to pass cars. An immediate search for a new and improved clutch setup ensued. I was led, through many knowledgeable folks that I met right here on IGOTASTi, into the Stage 4 Exedy Twin Disk. After hemming and hawing over it for several days, I took a breath and ordered it. The clutch arrived at my house within a matter of a couple days, all shiny and purple..

After talking to Scott about installing said clutch, I remembered something that JJ had said once about LOVING his Torque Solutions Pitch Stop. I inquired to Scott about replacing any stiffeners while we had the clutch apart, and it was suggested to me that we might do the tranny mount as well, since we were already there. I took it a step further and decided that we may as well do the motor mounts, too, and knock it all out at once. He agreed, and so I picked up the phone, and once again called up Jordan at Defined Performance to order toys. Jordan hooked me up on one of the last sets of Torque Solutions Motor Mounts, Tranny Mount, and Pitch Stop, due to shortage of supply, and provided me with excellent service and pricing, as always. There was a fair delay due to them being on back order, but Jordan, as always handled it professionally. When I would pester him about when when when when, he contacted the company directly, and after being informed that there would be an indefinite delivery date, took it upon his self to obtain another set from an outside source, and ship to me immediately the next day. They arrived two days later looking VERY happy to be home at last...

Now that all parts were in, I got on the phone with Scott and set the date to install for July 11, and the next two weeks passed by painfully, as I watched the parts seem to glare at me accusingly for making them wait to do their job. When the day finally came, all were joined as one in Scott's shop and an installation party ensued, with plenty of supplies on hand to ensure energy to last the day.

The removal an installation began without a hitch, and the shiny, new parts got to meet their older, tired counterparts. There was much envy as the saggy, worn out old clutch, flywheel, and mounts met their replacements, at least satisfied in the knowledge that one day, their replacements would be old and worn out, and replaced by newer, shinier parts. As they met face to face there was much comparison made as to who was truly the superior product. I leave to you, the reader, to judge with your own eyes as to which you think is the most belonging in the tapestry of metal, plastic, and polyurethane that makes up the machine..

The new flywheel, proud of it's lean, chromoly stature could only give a sad nod in passing to the fat, bulky, heavy stock flywheel. There really was no comparison...

As Scott masterfully seated the new clutch in it's rightful place at the throne of the transmission, it beamed a brilliant purple shine, that would not be dulled by the fact that it would be buried in darkness. Confident in it's knowledge that two plates, were indeed, better than one, and that it would take the mantle of power and ensure that the power bestowed upon it by the mighty motor would pass freely to the masses of the rest of the drivetrain. The new mounts, standing strong against the waves of power coursing through, swore that they would not sag and buckle and separate like their predecessors, but take the waves of pressure and pass the energy to the proper paths, ensuring a much cleaner path to the wheels than any had thought capable.

The clutch, new to it's place of power, is still getting used to the load it must bear, but can be heard crying out in chatter to the rest of the drivetrain to continue to persevere in the path of righteous power transfer, so that the wheels will continue to turn with all due haste. Follow up will tell the story of how the new crew will hold up to the demands being placed upon them. *I hope the visuals help some people have an idea of just what these upgrades are about, and how much beefier the Torque Solutions parts are. I had fun with it.. sometimes it's nice to be able to see just how much of a difference there is between stock and upgraded components. :) I know it's always helped me to understand.

Your descriptive/narrative approach to the story was entertaining. Made a ho hum read lively.

I'd like some feedback on the torque solutions product when you get that. These are on my near future list. Hopefully I can obtain a set given your backorder scenario?

I will definitely keep you posted, Spamby. :) The vibration is very noticible from the mounts, as expected, but not as bad as I was fearing based one what people had told me. I've had a couple folks say that it *could* get a little better with time, but we'll see. It's certainly livable. Between the flywheel being lighter, and my crank pulley that was already lighter, and the mounts not eating up so much energy twisting... It's definitely a much more solid punch, though I haven't really gotten on it due to break in.. but the revs are faster, and the car feels less wobbly when I shift.
 
Now that was a good read. Smiled all the way though. I love the story even if it is just a clutch and bushings. I almost did a write up on how to properly sit in the drivers seat a drool. How do you like the mounts? I replaced everything with group n bushing (its a DD) and I love them! I can finally FEEL what the engine and transmission are doing.

Thanks, guys! I had fun with it. Now that I've had a couple days and a lot of miles on it, everything is settling in. Still getting used to the pedal, but the car feels so much more solid and quick to respond. There is definitely more vibration, but my sub causes even more, so its not a big deal to me. Lol. Sub also drowns the clutch noise, so double win. Did throw false misfire codes this morning , which I can only assume is from both lightened crank pulley and flywheel.. deciding if I want to keep clearing or replace the pulley. Heh. No rush on that one, though.
