no heat at idle

alright i have a 2012 wrx with 47,xxx miles on it. I noticed that it isn't making heat at idle but it does when im driving it. Also the top radiator hose is getting hot while the lower one is like ice cold.

OEM part or aftermarket, I've seen aftermarket ones go bad in a matter of days.

Secondly if installed improperly it can also render the thermostat inoperable

Well I would take it back to the place you had it done at, it's considered a comeback, and with all comebacks if the part failed they have to pay for it on their dime.

I think he had a shop install it, not a self install

Well I ended up just taking it to Baierl Subaru and it's the head gasket...but it's covered under warranty!

I know the shop foreman at Bairel Subaru, good service dept up there. They should take good care of you. Knowing him he will probably replace both headgaskets. Real sorry to hear about your troubles man. Hopefully the heads don't require to be machined and if they do hopefully they don't need to take too much off.
