High rpm's??

2012 STi sedan limited. 100% stock.

My first performance car so definitely a noob question.

Driving down the highway at normal speed 65-70 in 6th gear. Is it normal for the rpms to be up near 3,000 rpm? I'm no expert with cars, but with the high ratio in the 6th gear, I wouldn't expect the rpms to be so high just doing 70. I appreciate any help.

yep, perfectly normal. at 70 i'm at like 2800 rpms or something like that. Just shy of 3k.

Yep, my turbo is just about to scream in 6th gear at 70. I try to remember to downshift when passing to avoid any issues under heavy acceleration, but I find myself forgetting sometimes just because the pull is still so good. hehe

Sounds about right Op, My 09 is the exactly the same way. at 75mph in 6th gear I am above 3k rpms. This is one of the reason STI's get such poor gas millage, as the gearing is set for power and racing, not high way cruising or fuel economy. You will find though that if you can keep out of boost and open loop as much as possible you can get pretty decent gas millage.
