Hi folks as some of you may know from my newbie thread a while ago I am the owner of www.scottishscoobies.net over in the UK we are basically the Scottish version of this place but on a smaller scale.

As requested by your members here is my first journal for my WR1 I will get one done for my classic shape next.

I thought I would start a project thread for the WR1 seeing as its going in a slightly different direction than I originally said it would ( Standard with subtle mods ) and going full beast spec

First of all I bought the WR1 off my mate Eddie more or less a standard car apart from a SSQV III, Upgraded exhaust, full whiteline goodies underneath and also AP racing brakes all round, RCM Wing stiffies, but other than that it was running standard map on the ECU and not much more.

Pic of when I bought the car:

So first things first I am not a huge fan of a car without a front lip spoiler don't know why but always makes a massive difference to the appearance of any car. I was pointed in the direction of a lad on scoobynet who was selling very good quality plastic ones as apposed to fiberglass/chocolate ones that break easy, so one was purchased and fitted instant improvement :)

Next on the agenda was a map check as Eddie was not sure if it had been mapped before or not, no point in just getting a map check without a bit more ponies squeezed out at the same time. As always my golden rule has always been to make the engine breath more freely so a Cosworth panel filter, Samco intake and air box hoses purchased from RCM ( Roger Clark Motorsport ) . While on the phone to them they informed me they could do me some branded WR1 hoses for much the same price as the plain Samco ones so this option was chosen for that little bit of bling. I also fitted a Scoobyworx 290 fuel pump to replace the ageing walbro fitted to the WR1 as standard

I also treated the car to a service before the map consisting of new plugs, fuel filter and oil and filter, Kevlar belt.

So off to visit Mr Andy Forest for a little map work courtesy of Big John ( Braveheart's ) group buy deal on my own forum. During the map Andy noticed the Dump valve was drawing air so it was removed and standard recirc was fitted back on, when we removed it we found the gasket was split and the whole bottom section was completely missing.

Here are the results they speak for themselves :)

I was now a happy man with the power well for the time being that is ;)

Next on the agenda was some decent rubber and the 2 sets of PFF7s refurbed I got from Eddie as part of the spares package that came with the car so off to the wheel specialist in Aberdeen for some powder coating and Camskills sorted me out with some Michelin pilot Sport 3

Oh and I also got the car resprayed at Stuart Cooper Motors near Laurancekirk by Barry Cooper as it was getting tatty. It had some rust on the drivers front wing behind the mudflap (New wing fitted) and a bit of rust on the roof at the front screen seal and all the usual chips and scratches on a 2004 car as you would expect so windows out and paint on and new stickers. Hmm just realised I have not taken a pic of it since its respray I will do this tomorrow sorry.

So that brings us to now 1 year and 1 month on since I bought it off Eddie and now comes the urge to make it the car it should of been from Subaru in the first place. The parts have been slowly gathering in my garage and in 7 days time the car goes into Brian Downie Motorsport for the work to be completed.

Spec will be:

CDB bored out and rear thrust and 14mm stud conversion with 2.1 Cosworth stroker ACL bearings and so on
Cosworth High flow high pressure oil pump
Cosworth Camshafts and some head work to be done
Cosworth cold air intake
RCM 420 Billet and ported turbo
RCM Zircotec Coated headers and matching downpipe 3 Inch
RCM belt guide and Gates racing Kevlar belt ( Again  )
Injector dynamics 1000cc injectors
Parallel fuel rail setup with Scoobyworx racing billet fuel rails and fuel lab FPR
Uprated clutch still in discussion about this so this will be decided next week
Syvecs ECU and mapping

That's the rough spec for now may change slightly but not by much

I will keep this thread updated as it goes the Closed Deck Block was dropped off today to Brian for him to get the ball rolling with the machining work :)

Here you go pics of the freshly painted WR1 with the freshly powdercoated Anthracite Prodrive wheels

Well today for a valentines treat for my beloved WR1 I decided to fit the new Prodrive rally flaps seen as the rest of the car is looking so nice yet the old flaps had seen better days before and after pics bellow.

im not familiar with the WR1, what are the differences vs a standard?

But im jealous of that beast. I would've bought the AP BBK if it were in my price range. The new turbo should be beast too.

Isn't it funny how some aftermarket parts just dont hold up to OEM, like the bpv.

Keep us updated!

The color is called Ice Blue Subaru paint code 23G yeah it's a nice color only 500 made for my country but 1000 in total the other 500 went to other areas of Europe and got called the Solberg edition as apposed to the WR1 in the UK.

Grinder this it the original press release from Subaru UK back in 2004
Press Release

Fastest, Most Powerful Impreza Ready to Roll

Subaru's fastest and most powerful Impreza ever - the WRX STi 'WR1' - is about to enter dealer showrooms, with more than half of the 500 limited run already spoken for. The special edition Impreza WRX STi celebrates Petter Solberg winning the Driver's Title in the 2003 World Rally Championship. It features a power upgrade to 320 PS plus a host of technical and visual upgrades and costs ?29,995 GBP on-the-road. First unveiled in January at the 'Autosport' show, the Prodrive-developed 'WR1' has just received official Subaru (UK) engineering approval after recording the best performance figures ever for a road-going UK-spec Impreza.Only 4.25 Seconds To Reach 60 mph

For example, 60 mph is reached in an astonishing 4.25 seconds with the 0-100 mph time at an equally impressive 10.67 seconds. Prodrive technicians also logged a quarter mile time of 12.8 seconds while the top speed is limited to 155 mph. By comparison, the 'standard' 265 PS Impreza STi is quoted with a 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 151.5 mph. Peak power for the 'WR1' is 320 PS at a relatively low 5,800 rpm, with maximum torque or pulling power of 309.8 lb.ft at 4,000 rpm. The 'standard' STi produces 265 PS at 6,000 rpm and 253 lb.ft torque at 4,000 rpm while the optional Prodrive-developed Performance Pack liberates 305 PS and 299 lb.ft torque at the same revs and reaches 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and 100 mph in 12.2 seconds. Other test track statistics see the 'WR1' shaving 0.7 seconds off the STi's 30-50 mph time in 4th gear - down to 4.0 seconds - and 0.8 seconds off the 50-70 mph time in 5th - now 4.6 seconds. Finally, illustrating its supercar-like performance, the new 'WR1' boasts an 80-100 mph time of a staggering 3.6 seconds in 4th gear and 6.5 seconds in 6th (4.6 and 7.8 seconds for the 265 PS STi). The 'WR1's extra power and torque are achieved thanks to a revised engine control unit (ECU), high-flow catalyst and sports silencer.Driver-Selected Torque Split Tailors Handling Balance

Also guaranteed to excite enthusiasts is a driver's control centre-differential (DCCD) via a switch mounted next to the handbrake. It means the torque distribution between front and rear wheels can be manually selected. This allows the choice, for example, between a sharper cornering turn-in or more stable straight-line running. The system defaults to 'automatic' mode whenever the ignition is restarted. Also new for the 'WR1' are special, Prodrive-developed uprated springs and bump-stops with a 25 mm lower ride-height.Special Wheels, Body Colour And Interior

Other handling-enhancing features include 18 ins diameter P-FF7 (Prodrive Flow Forming seven-spoke) alloy wheels with 225/45 Pirelli PZero tyres. Externally, the new 'WR1' is instantly recognisable thanks to its new Ice Blue Metallic paint plus driving lamps and a stainless steel mesh grille. Interior changes include anthracite instead of blue suede-effect seats, a special gear knob, imaged carpet mats and a tax disc holder engraved with the special edition number. Features shared with all Impreza WRX STi's range from a six-speed gearbox to Brembo brakes and front and rear 'Suretrac' differentials.

Pic of the interior too similar to the Spec C with the black seats and dark carpet instead of the normal blue

Now im really curious about what "mods" (factory installed, of course) got the power up so much.

Me too. It seems almost as if it's a Stage II upgrade (with a high flow cat) from the factory.

The mods that Prodrive fitted to the the WR1 to lift the power consisted of

Remap on a aftermarket Prodrive ECU PPP ( Prodrive Performance Pack )
High flow Prodrive sports catalytic converter
Prodrive stainless steel exhaust system
Walbro 255LPH fuel pump
Prodrive intercooler Y pipe
Prodrive 3 port boost solenoid

yep, seems like batmobile nailed it. I'm almost surprised they stuck with the stock injectors.

Yeah they stopped short and left it with the standard STI injectors.

Which makes very little sense to me. In the end, it's all about money.
