so where is the best placement to put the alum bung for the air flow sensor on the intake for speed density tuning?

Any where after the turbo AND intercooler is sufficient. Generally as close to the throttle body as possible. I have seen them placed in the output side end tank on the IC if you still have the top mount. If not then in the piping just before the throttle body after the FMIC. I personally remove one of the steel plugs in the intake manifold and modify it to hold the sensor and then reinstall the plug.

If you have a FMIC, the other thing I have done, with great success. is keep the MAF and use it in a blow through configuration somewhere after the FMIC. This moves the temp sensor to the proper location and allows you to use MAF blending or MAF clamping. The advantage to this is you maintain the stability and consistancy of maf while in closed loop and then switch to SD during WOT. You also don't have to hack your wire harness.
