What motor oil is the best?

15w50 is what was recommended to me for summer months... Probably too thick for winter temps.

What about when its summer 11 months of the year?

In the past I've used Mobil 1, Castrol Syntec and Royal Purple. After trying all of these, I can't get them to stack up against AMSOIL.

I've tried those three as well....the best was the Castrol IMO. Mobil 1 and Royal Purple burned a bit more.

Any ideas where to find it? I've never seen it or found it anywhere local.

Just started to burn rotella... suspect something strange inside my engine. For now I need something in the 50w area. Suggestions?

About 2 quarts every 2000 miles... of semi aggressive driving. Maybe its the turbo, but I don't see it smoking at idle.

Any smoke at start up? Have you did a compression check?

No smoke at start up. Going to do one just out of curiosity. My static compression should be lower due to the cams.

I would start with the compression test first, but it might just be normal with the way your running the car and that oil. I have seen some oils burn like crazy and others not.

Nopone ever believes me but Ive used Mobel 1 5w 30 in the winter and 10w 30 in teh summer. Ive used it on all my motors with no issues at all. Everyone says oil consumption is an issue wit Mobel 1 but Ive never seen it. Every block weve torn down of mine (even my 100k block) that was used with Mobel 1 had no signs of terriable wear or sludge of any kind.

On a side note, I will be using Rotella T 15w 40 on my 04 when the EJ22 goes in her!
