PC build

My current primary computer is a laptop I bought in 2007 that has done a decent job but is showing its age. JJ's going to fly to Texas and kick my ass if I don't work on some media projects for him so I decided its time to upgrade.

This will be a "budget" build. Budget meaning I will resist my natural urge to get the absolute best of everything. Input would be great however all the parts are in the mail as I want this thing running by Saturday.

Processor: I7 3770k overclocked to 4.5ghz
CPU Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
Motherboard: MSI Z77A-GD55
Ram: 16gb 1600mhz DDR3
Video Card: Radeon HD 7850
Primary Drive: 128gb SSD
Secondary Drives: 1X 3TB, 2X 1TB
Power Supply: OCZ 600 watt
Case: Cooling Master Haf X 942
Media Drive: LG 22x

I went a bit over my budget of $1k. However, seeing as how I'll use it to design the business cards and such for the 7,000 sites JJ's popping out I'm writing it off as a business expense and used one of JJ's credit card numbers I stole.

aw.... wish u would have said something earlier.... i just pretty much gave a brand new alienware pc away a week ago ! friggin loaded with all kinda cool editing software ! ..would have rather given it to someone who would have used it properly. oh well. urs is gonna be pretty solid also ! sometimes budget parts are better than paying for the name brand !

Yeah I just spontaneously decided to do this. I literally never use my PC except for what ever I help JJ with. My net book, ipad, and work PC take care of everything else. With my car in the shop from a wreck (that may have been my fauld :?) and a $500 deductible rather than tightening my belt I have a tendency to do the opposite and buy shit to make myself feel better.

Im jealous. Im still working with my budget comp i built back in 2005. Looks like you picked some good components. You already got the AS5? If not, add that to your list of things to buy.

edit: dont forget the surface cleaner stuff too.

You have a $1225 charge on your credit card. :-o

Theft is what that is called. I also wonder if in jail they will let you design business cards for me.

My avatar is pure awesome!

Where are you buying the parts from, or did you already make the purchase.

On another note I just spent $1580 on an AEM standalone and a patch cable... My PC is 8 years old... Shows you where my priorities lie

Parts are coming from amazon and new egg. Any places that had the components slightly less was off set by the cost of shipping. I have amazon prime with 2 day shipping and new egg ships 3 days which was important so that I can work on the cards for JJ this weekend (after work, a b-day party, and studying for 3 final exams.... fuck).

What happened to your i7 build?

Th I7 took a shit and I re-enlisted the old PC

I said fuck it and started buying car parts again... Plus I just got done with my Car-PC so that is kinda like buying another computer HAHA! So is buying a standalone HAHA!

NewEgg is teh shit... I buy everything from them

You will love the SSD... My car PC boots, from the moment you hit the on button to the moment windows is fully loaded, in under 20 seconds. Defragmenting takes less than a minute. On top of that the MB has an instant boot feature which loads current bios and the current operating system state into SSD and on the next start up, it reads that first and loads it instead of going through the post sequence. It is up and running in 10 second flat.

Agreed. If you dont care exactly what you get (eg video card) you can usually find some sweet deals. My vid card had a $20 off instantly, plus a coupon code for 10% off, plus a mail in rebate for $30.

That's awesome! I'm glad I spent the extra money on it. It's going to be nice having a fast PC and not having to wait 2 hours for itunes to sync lol.

Yeah I wanted an ASUS video card or at least one with a reputable brand but everything was sold out. I had the choice between HIS or Power Color and went with Power Color for $250. They chips are all Radeon so I doubt it matters much.
