Second cam sensor issue in 1 month...

I swear my car hates me. Its been running great for the past month after I replaced the faulty cam sensor then yesterday the car died at a stop light on the way to work. It started up fine and I was able to finish the drive. Then on the way home from work it died again at a stop light. This time starting the car was as difficult as a cold start with E85 (engine was warm). It would crank ruble a bit crank then repeate. It was almost like there was too much fuel as a few times it would back fire after cranking. I eventually was able to get it to start and run just fine after feathering the gas while it was cranking (which confuses me even more as that should add fuel). Afterwards It idled a bit low but otherwise ran fine (I also re-flashed the tune while trying to get the car to start.)

I'm borrowing a car for the rest of the week so won't be able to see if the issue comes back until the weekend. In the mean time does anyone have any ideas as to what could be going on?

Update:

The car died on the dyno at COBB today while idling between pulls. This time it threw the code P0340 for the passenger side cam sensor. I replaced the driver side last month after getting a P0345 code. I find it highly unlikely that both sensor went bad within one month... Which is leading me to believe its a wiring issue. The car is also not controlling boost at all. I'm thinking and hoping that its a bad vacuum line going to the waste gate.

Monday I will do the following:
-look over entire wiring harness
-remove passenger AVCS banjo bolt to see if it has the filter that can create issues
-replace intake filter (not related but its been 2 years)
-replace wastegate vacuum hose if needed.
-install custom rubber bumpers on areas where the stainless steal fuel lines are rubbing (I'm glad Neil at COBB pointed this out or else I'd have a lot of breather hoses to replace from the steel lines sawing through)

I'm also ordering a new cam sensor for the passenger side to eliminate the .000001% chance that this is the issue.

I would check for vacuum leaks first then clean your MAF sensor... maybe check for debris clogging the air filter. Can you tell us what the vac/boost gauge reads at an idle?

And as rek just reminded me... what is you fuel pressure at an idle

Thanks guys! My battery is charging fine and has plenty of juice. I'm seeing high 13's to 14 volts consistantly. Even last night with the headlights on and cranking for 10 min I still was reading ~11 volts.

What's the best thing to clean the MAF with? I'll get the fuel pressure and idle vacuum tonight when I get home.

A fuel pump issue is what I'm afraid of. :( Damn Bosch 040 and hacked fuel pump relay.

Also check that fuel pump if it's hacked.

Fuel pump connections are OK I've checked them several times and they are solid. I'm thinking it could be the pump its self if its fuel related. I hope its the MAF just being dirty.

I have an appointment with COBB Saturday that I scheduled last month for a tune checkup and oil change. Hopefully they'll be able to check whatever I don't have time to (like vacuum leaks). I'll clean the MAF tonight.

I hope its not from a really dirty air filter lol. I have a new one but havent had the time to replace it.

I won't be able to check until Friday night. :(

I literally have work/ school from 8am to ~10pm Mon-Friday without a break and work 10 hours on Saturday...

I'm about to head out of class early and get some MAF cleaner and oil (getting the oil changed Saturday).

Fuck my life. :lol:

Good entry for that "first world problems" thread!

Too much education and paying job :lol:

I had an issue with a customers car. The car was miss firering due to bad plugs. It threw a cam sensor code. Didn't know that the plugs where bad, replaced the sensor and the issue came back. For some reason I pulled the plugs out to do a comp test and found that at least 2 plugs where fouled. Changed them and the car has been running like a champ ever since. I think that he has blowby issues but I cant determine it atm. Just throwing this out there.

Jared, here's the secret: Tear it all down and start over. Sitting on some issues myself, and FUCK if I want to do it... but I have to!

I didn't get a chance to work on the car yet. I'm going to try some things this Sunday. I really don't want to have to tear it all down to the wiring harness. :(

Dude I had the same issue.... I think bluedemon is on to something though.... Reason being I was running rich as fuck for the past year.... Might have caused a fowled spark plug and thus this problem... I keep getting the same code as well.... Although at this point I am not really sure what it might be.... The cam shaft position sensor I swapped into mine (on the second time) turned out to be the wrong part number.... as soon as I plugged it in the car threw a code.... All you need to do with the wiring is test the continuity of the connector with a volt meter...

Vermont - on that note - I've found the AF#3 correction limits in OS, and managed to basically switch off the effect of the rear O2 sensor :D

Nice man! You think you can open up that table for the rest of us? I.E. a definitions patch? I ask because if you can I will cancel my order with Jordan for a new rear O2 sensor since it still hasn't come in yet... Only real reason I ask is this will improve my fuel economy by more than a little... since 13.7 sucks compared to 14.7 as far as fuel economy... Also has probably toasted my spark plugs....

Ding Ding! Put this into your AZ1G202I.xml (ecuflash) and you will get 50% and -50%. Change those to 0 and go out and monitor AF#3 correction. :D

Code:
<table name="AF 3 Correction Limits" address="309CC" type="2D" level="1" scaling="A/FLearning#1Limits(%)">
      <table name="X" type="Static X Axis" elements="2">
         <data>High</data>
         <data>Low</data>
      </table>
   </table>

Btw - I've also unearthed the AF#1 learning maximum and minimum range ceilings. Useful thing is to set the top ceiling below the range D (40g/s) threshold - at 39g/s - and no more LTFT carried through into open loop.

Wow! awesome dude! Would you mind if I started a new thread on this issue and moved it over their? your post that is? so that we can add to the premium members stuff?

With pleasure - I've started on the Romraider forums where I first published it - but for the AF#3 have not yet published any addresses till I get one or two more confirmations. But trust me, that's the correction limits. Have a look at my logs:
